What We Publish
We are always looking for great contributors for our online publication! Our goal is to offer unrestricted, informative and highly valuable content as an educational resource to working dog handlers and the K9 community as a whole. We publish a variety of content relating to the training and handling of working dogs. Articles can focus on a relatively broad range of topics relating to the training, handling and care of working dogs as well as information designed to improve the working dog community as a whole.
Contributors to K9 Handler Magazine are afforded a number of benefits for submitting articles and featured stories to our publication. First, it is an opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge and expertise to a community that is wealthy for knowledge. Secondly, with each approved submission, your bio (200 word max.) will be published at the bottom of each article with a link to your website. You will also have a digital ad of your choice (728 X 90) placed on the same page as your article.
Training Articles
Training articles are those that discuss K9 training or handling concepts. These articles generally have an 800-1500 word count, but longer articles will be considered.
Educational Articles
Educational articles generally cover topics that would generally not be considered a “how-to” but still afford considerable educational content for our target audience. These articles generally have an 800-1500 word count and longer articles will be considered.
General Interest Articles
General interest articles can be related to almost anything that is K9 related and will typically have some educational value as well. These articles generally have an 800-1500 word count but longer articles will be considered.
Feature Stories
Our featured stories are generally more in-depth training and handling related articles than our other articles. Featured stories often have complex concepts or ideas that will be discussed and described at length. The typical length for most featured stories is 2,000 to 5,000 words, but we will publish longer pieces if the subject allows.
Editing
Major changes in length, focus, style and structure will be discussed with the contributor prior to publication. Contributors are encouraged to provide suggested titles and taglines for their story, but editors have the right to edit or make changes as deemed necessary.
Fact Checking and Sources
It is the responsibility of the contributor to verify, before submitting the story, the validity of all facts and statements claimed in the story. It is also their responsibility to ensure the the article is read to ensure correct spelling and that proper grammar is used.
Contributors should be prepared to verify any facts called into question by K9 Handler Magazine. Any information called into question by K9 Handler Magazine that cannot by verified will not be published.
Photographic Media Submissions
Contributors are urged to provide high-quality images that relate to their article or story. Images should be at least 1200p by 1200p and should be at least 133ppi (pixels per inch). A minimum of five (5) high-quality images should be submitted with each article. Featured stories that are submitted should be accompanied by a minimum of ten (10) high quality photographs, infographics, gifographics or other relevant media.
Other Media
Because of our unique online platform, articles and featured stories can also contain media other than photographs. As such, we encourage contributors to also submit any relevant media to be included in their article or featured story.
Video
Please do not email videos. If you wish to share video(s) with your article, simply submit a link or embed code to the video that is hosted on Youtube, Vimeo or similar platform.
Downloadables
Word documents, .pdf’s and other downloadable media files can also be included with our submission and included with your article. Maximum size is 2MB
Infographics and Illustrations
A variety of illustrations can also be submitted with articles and featured stories. Illustrations should be sent as a .jpg, .png. or .gif format and should be at least 133ppi. Maximum size is 2MB
Media Ownership
All contributors should submit only original works. Contributors are solely responsible for checking whether material submitted is subject to copyright or ownership rights, e.g. figures, tables, photographs, illustrations, trade literature and data. The author will need to obtain permission to reproduce any such items, and include these permissions with their final submission.
